Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Unit
Location: Petoskey, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Overview
- Work as a Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (CVU) caring for cardiology patients undergoing procedures such as PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, and bi-ventricular pacemakers.
- Care for approximately 300 open heart surgery patients (18-24 hours post-op) annually.
- Manage patients with congestive heart failure and electrophysiology studies.
- Participate in national clinical trials through the research department.
- The CVU has received a Silver level Beacon Award and was redesigned by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1+ year of experience in cardiac nursing (highest required).
- Skills:
- Proficiency in cardiac care.
- Comfortable with EKG interpretation.
- Must be willing to float to similar units.
- Travel: Prior travel experience is required.
- Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Michigan RN license verification required (LARA and Nursys).
- ACLS and BLS certifications required.
- Other:
- A skills checklist completed within one year of application for RN specialties is required.
- References are NOT required.
- Full-time employees of the facility are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment.

- Unit: Level 2 North, a 28-bed Medical Surgical Unit with diverse patient populations including general and vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma, and stroke care.
- Fast-paced, patient-centered environment focused on safety and quality care.
- Active Unit Based Council promoting teamwork and a positive work environment.
- Supportive orientation for new team members.
- Collaborative interdisciplinary care team using clinical pathways and patient education.
Attendance Policy
- Strict 3-strike attendance policy:
- More than 20 minutes late or absent from a scheduled shift 3 times results in immediate termination.
- Exceptions considered for communicable disease or hospitalization with supporting evidence.
- Policy effective starting 6/1/2024.
