ICU RN Opportunity - Kearney, Nebraska

Position Details

  • Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse (ICU RN)
  • Location: Kearney, Nebraska
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Department: ICU
  • Unit Size: 33 beds (average daily census 16)
  • Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts
    • Day Shift: 06:30 - 18:30
    • Night Shift: 18:30 - 06:30
  • Scheduling:
    • Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers
    • Block scheduling generally not approved (exceptions for weekends only)
    • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
    • Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
  • Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Required upfront within 7 days or less for 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Clinical Information

  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Adults: 1:2 to 1:3
    • Floating to PCU or MedSurg with ratios of 1:4 or 1:5

    • Titration of drips (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation) required
    • Reading, interpreting, and documenting cardiac monitor strips (GE monitors)
    • Troubleshooting respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
  • Support Staff:
    • Nurse aides available based on census, assist with 1:1 patient care or floor support
    • Healthcare Support Tech present 3 days per week (M-F, 08:00-16:30)
    • Respiratory therapists provide oversight for ventilators and other respiratory equipment

Additional Requirements & Policies

  • Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles; driver's license required at submission
  • Employment Restrictions: Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
  • Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
  • Orientation Exam: RN candidates must pass a 90% score on an open-book skills exam during orientation (failure results in termination)
  • Scheduling Restrictions: No approval for blocked scheduling except weekends; duos wanting the same schedule or to share a car are not accepted

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care patient populations, titrating drips, and working in a fast-paced trauma and cardiac ICU environment.
