Job Opportunity: LDRP RN (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
Location: Devils Lake, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Department: LDRP / Level I Nursery and OB unit
- Float assignments include Medsurg and Pediatrics, occasionally ER if comfortable
- Labor & Delivery beds: 4
- Postpartum beds: 4 (use L&D beds)
- Triage beds: 1
- Births per year: Approximately 250
- C-sections performed in OR; Labor RNs accompany patient to OR and assist with newborn stabilization
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Preeclampsia
- Cholestasis of pregnancy
- Repeat Cesarean sections
- Newborn stabilization for transport
Required Experience & Skills
- Labor and Delivery nursing experience
- Nursery and newborn stabilization experience
- Ability to float to Medsurg and Pediatrics
- RN must be able to titrate drips (Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, ampicillin, gentamicin for babies)
Certifications
- Required: BLS, NRP
- Preferred: ACLS, STABLE, TNCC
Staffing & Support
- No charge nurse on unit; hospital coordinator and occasional OB coordinator available
- No nurse aides or surgical techs on unit
- No in-house OB/Neonatologist 24/7 (Level I nursery)
- Anesthesia on call, located nearby
- Respiratory equipment includes nasal cannula and some CPAP; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- Tele/Monitor techs rarely present; RNs do not routinely read their own strips
- EFM system: GE Corometrics
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift times: 06:45–19:15 and 18:45–07:15
- Self-scheduling allowed; nurses fill in where needed
- Weekend and holiday work as needed
- Rotate day/night shifts
- Dress code: Navy scrubs
- Unit-specific orientation: 1 week
Additional Notes
- Team-oriented, friendly unit with good communication between doctors and nurses
- Successful nurses are hardworking, easygoing, and team players
Other Requirements
- Must be within 50 miles radius
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals
This position offers a dynamic LDRP nursing role with opportunities to work across OB, nursery, Medsurg, and Peds in a supportive environment.
