Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II - Grand Blanc, Michigan
Position Overview
- Demonstrate understanding of cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology.
- Assist with orientation and training of Cath Lab staff.
- Participate in special projects and relevant committees.
- Adhere to medical ethics principles related to the Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II role.
- Thorough knowledge of ECG interpretation, including lethal arrhythmias, chamber enlargement, and myocardial infarctions.
- Understand common cardiac pathologies, symptoms, and treatments.
- Knowledge of cardiac medications, pharmacokinetics, documentation, indications, and dosages.
- Recognize and alert physicians to abnormalities in lab values (Arterial Blood Gases, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, creatinine).
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and manage full cardiac arrest situations per ACLS standards.
- Monitor diagnostic cardiac catheter procedures and intervene during lethal arrhythmias.
- Identify coronary anatomy in cine angiographic projections and cardiac pressure waveforms.
- Calculate hemodynamic parameters and document catheterization events.
- Prepare supplies and set up for diagnostic cardiac catheterization.
- Perform cardiac outputs, O2 saturations, and ACT measurements.
- Monitor percutaneous interventions and differentiate between PTCA, directional, and mechanical rotation atherectomy.
- Understand extraction devices (angiojet, rotoblator, laser revascularization).
- Explain thrombolytic therapy indications and complications for Acute MI.
- Recognize benefits of intravascular ultrasound and Doppler velocimetry.
- Describe indications for electrophysiologic testing, pacemaker implants, therapeutic ablation, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
- Operate Cath Lab fluoroscopy system components to assist physicians.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Allied Health Sciences program (e.g., Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Exercise Science, Cardiac or Vascular Sonography, or equivalent).
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), or Radiology Technologist (ARRT) with Cardiac or Vascular Interventional certification.
- Valid BCLS certification required.
- ACLS certification required within six months of hire.

- Physical demands include:
- Ability to scrub in a sterile environment for extended periods.
- Ability to wear lead aprons weighing up to 5 lbs. for extended periods.
- Ability to lift patients to/from stretcher/bed with team assistance.
- Ability to push beds or stretchers with immobilized patients with team assistance.
