ICU RN Position - Marianna, Florida
Job Overview
- ICU RN role in a small 88-bed hospital with a 7-bed Main ICU (Special Care Unit) and a 22-bed COVID ICU.
- Possible float to Med Surg.
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend.
- No on-call required.
- 12-hour shifts (7a-7p and 7p-7a).
- ASAP start.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks.
Required Certifications
- Florida RN license.
- BLS (Basic Life Support).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required within the earliest reasonable offering.
- Ventilator and tracheostomy experience mandatory.
- NIHSS and TNCC preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Must have experience with ventilators and tracheostomies.
- Experience with all critical care drips, including sedation.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Main ICU: 7 beds, all ventilated, typically full.
- COVID ICU: 22 beds, includes MedSurg COVID-positive and vented patients.
- PCU (Progressive Care Unit): 8 beds, no vents but requires vent and trach experience due to patient acuity.
- Patient diagnoses include primarily COVID, DKA, Sepsis, Pulmonary Edema, CHF, COPD, Flu, acute abdomen, abdominal perforation, post-op care, minor traumas, and hypertensive crisis.
Staffing & Ratios
- ICU/COVID ICU goal ratio: 1:2; rarely up to 1:3 with low acuity patients.
- PCU/Regular COVID ratio: typically 1:4, occasionally 1:5.
- No CNAs in ICU or COVID ICU; CNAs used in PCU and Regular COVID units.
- RNs may be required to perform CNA duties if overstaffed.
Work Environment & Support
- EMR system: CPSI - Evident Thrive.
- House Supervisor available 24/7 but less present on COVID units.
- ICU Director/Manager is a "working manager" and available 24/7.
- No dedicated IV team; some staff PICC and Midline certified assist with difficult IVs.
- Respiratory Therapists available 24/7 managing vents, EKGs, breathing treatments, and ABGs.
- Pharmacy available 24/7 with Omnicell system.
- Monitor techs usually present, but RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips.
Orientation & Floating
- Orientation includes training on Omnicell, CPSI, and SCU.
- Floating required between ICU, PCU, and COVID units; director aims for consistent and equitable floating.
- Preference for nurses willing to float between ICU and PCU.
Additional Notes
- Scrub colors: Navy/Black generally; green scrubs provided for COVID units and must be returned after shifts.
- Flexibility and adaptability are essential due to fluctuating patient volumes and COVID-related challenges.
- No PICU patients except occasional pediatrics sent out if critically ill.
- LTAC RNs with strong LTAC/ICU experience may be considered.

This ICU RN position requires strong critical care skills, especially with ventilators, tracheostomies, and critical drips. The role involves working in a high-acuity environment with COVID and non-COVID patients, floating between units, and working 12-hour shifts with weekend rotations.
