Description

Endoscopy RN / Endo Tech Opportunity

Location: Rapid City, South Dakota
Specialty: Endoscopy
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Facility Overview

  • 4 Endoscopy rooms
  • 20 Pre-Op bays
  • 14 PACU bays

Required Experience

  • RN: Minimum 2 years with Level 1 or 2 trauma experience
  • Endo Tech: Minimum 1 year experience
  • First-time travelers generally not accepted without approval
  • Travelers must live more than 100 miles from the facility
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as travelers

Patient Types

  • Upper & Lower Endoscopy including advanced procedures:
    • EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound)
    • EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound)
    • ERCP
  • EGD and Colonoscopy
  • Pre and Post Recovery (Phase I and II), including some ICU-level care

Patient Ratios

  • Endoscopy: 1:1
  • Pre-Op: 1:2
  • PACU Phase I: 1:1 or 1:2 (based on acuity)
  • PACU Phase II: 1:2 to 1:3

Required Certifications

  • RN: BLS, ACLS
  • Endo Tech: BLS

Required Education

  • RN: Completion of an approved nursing education program; Registered Nurse licensed by South Dakota Board of Nursing
  • Endo Tech: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited program preferred

Skills Required

  • RN:
    • Experience with endoscopy including advanced procedures (EUS, EBUS, ERCP)
    • Anesthesia provides sedation (not administered by RN)
  • Endo Tech:
    • Comfortable performing advanced endoscopy procedures (EUS, EBUS, ERCP, stenting, advanced interventional GI procedures)
    • Processing scopes and rotating through various department tasks

Unit Support

  • 6 RNs/Endo Techs on Endoscopy team
  • Anesthesia provides 100% sedation coverage

Charting System / Equipment

  • EPIC electronic health record
  • ION robot for robotic-assisted bronchoscopy
  • Omnicell medication dispensing system
  • Alaris infusion pumps

Floating Policy

  • Floating as needed to Pre-Op, PACU, or Floor for helping hands
  • No floating to Main OR as primary RN

Orientation

  • 1 week orientation on unit and facility

Scheduling

  • Weekend rotation every 3rd weekend
  • On-call one overnight per week (7pm-7am) and every 3rd weekend
    • Sleep room available in Pre-Op/PACU area
    • 15-minute response time required
  • Variable shifts for travelers include: 0630-1500, 0730-1600, 0830-1700, 0900-1800
  • Holiday coverage: 2 out of 4 major holidays required
  • Time off requires manager approval; may volunteer for low census without pay
