Job Opportunity: 4N Ortho-Neuro Nurse (RN)

Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: 4N Ortho - Neuro (33 beds, all private rooms)
• Patient Ratios: 1 RN to 6 patients
• Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:

  • Elective surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders)
  • Fractures from falls
  • Back & neck neuro-surgeries
  • General MedSurg patients

Required Certifications & Licenses

• BLS (AHA) certification required
• West Virginia RN license or compact license required

Experience Requirements

• Must have experience with orthopedic patients
• Must have experience with PCA pumps
• EPIC experience required

Skills & Responsibilities

• No RN titration of drips required
• Common drips: IV fluids and PCA pumps only (no heparin or other drips)
• Charge Nurse available 24/7; night charge nurse always takes a full patient assignment
• Patient Care Techs assist with vitals, fingerstick blood sugars (FSBS), activities of daily living (ADLs), and Foley catheter discontinuation
• Respiratory therapy equipment available (CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow) managed by RT
• Remote telemetry monitoring available; RNs do not read telemetry strips

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (with a 30-minute lunch break)
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend

  • Night weekend shifts: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Day weekend shifts: Saturday, Sunday
• Holiday shifts may be required depending on unit staffing needs
• Travelers may be scheduled flexibly but block scheduling allowed if unit needs are met

Additional Work Details

• Floating required; travelers float first to any MedSurg units, and if floated to Tele, assigned patients within skillset
• Scrub color: Royal blue; scrub jackets allowed only if royal blue, no hoodies or sweatshirts
• Orientation:

  • 1 day EPIC orientation
  • 1 day floor orientation with preceptor
  • 3rd day working independently
