Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Float Pool Nurse - Kansas (Zone 4)

Location

• City: Garden City, Kansas
• Zone 4 covers a 60-mile radius around Garden City, KS
• Float assignments may include multiple hospitals within this zone (up to 54 miles away)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele experience within the last 3 years (highest required experience)
• Preferred: prior neurology experience
• Preferred: experience with Alaris pumps and EPIC electronic medical records

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Patient Population

• Adults to geriatrics
• Common diagnoses include cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placement patients

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

• 1:5 to 1:6 depending on patient acuity

Clinical Responsibilities

• Nurses are required to titrate heparin drips
• Float assignments may include ICU (low acuity holds within skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units
• Charge nurses are designated on each unit and typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary

Equipment

• Respiratory therapy equipment available (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
• Telemetry monitoring present; RNs read strips

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM)
• Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time
• Travelers must be flexible to fill gaps in permanent staffing
• All time-off requests must be submitted before assignment start
• Weekend requirement: 6-9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Holiday rotation participation may be required
• Call or standby is rare and only for low census situations

Additional Information

• Travelers must be prepared to float throughout the entire 60-mile zone regardless of housing location
• Orientation week requires clinicians to be in-state (some modules may be completed remotely)
• Nurse aides are present on the units
