Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience prior to travel assignment.
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
- Certifications required:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Use of Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked.
Background Checks & Compliance
- Background check required prior to start; must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 48 hours of contract signing; results valid for 12 months and must be updated annually.
- Fingerprints must be completed under nursing-specific code (4723.09).
- Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process.
- Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if fingerprinting is completed before start.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS and ACLS: AHA Instructor or Provider level; RQI acceptable. Must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required for this role.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER; preferred for other areas.
- State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts.
- NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required.
- Annual completion of:
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for bedside RNs (except OR)
- Unit-specific Competency Exam (updated annually)
- Core Parts I, II, and III (updated annually)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later). Must confirm ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must use approved N95 masks; PAPRs approved case-by-case.
- Immunizations:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted).
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documented.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).
- Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
- Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates (see physical exam details).
Documentation & Onboarding
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
- Pass/Fail EKG and medication testing completed onsite during orientation.
- References: 2 professional references from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director). Co-worker references not accepted.
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar area.
- Annual skills checklist required.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and documentation requirements.
- Candidates with gaps in employment or returning to the facility may have specific re-onboarding or documentation requirements.
- Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free supplies.
- Fingerprinting and background checks are critical and must be completed timely to avoid delays.
