Diagnostic Imaging - Contract Position

Location: Bangor, Maine
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Summary

• Operate medical imaging equipment using high frequency sound waves for diagnostic ultrasound imaging.
• Select appropriate machine settings and guide patients into optimal positions for imaging.
• Consistently obtain high-quality images for Radiologist interpretation.
• Understand and utilize PACS (Picture Archive Communication System) for image management.
• Document patient care services accurately in patient and hospital records.
• Interact compassionately and effectively with patients who are sick or injured.
• Use specialized computerized equipment to produce cross-sectional images aiding diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities & Competencies

1. Prepare patients for ultrasound exams and special procedures; ensure adequate imaging for diagnosis.
2. Consult with Radiologists for exam review before patient discharge.
3. Provide ultrasound guidance during special procedures for attending physicians.
4. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and notify Clinical Engineering as needed.
5. Verify clinical history, orders, and patient identification using two established identifiers.
6. Fully operate ultrasound units and probes to obtain requested anatomy images with correct labeling.
7. Demonstrate proficiency with PACS and ability to send images after hours when required.
8. Competent in using EPIC electronic health record system.
9. Perform high-level disinfection of endocavity probes according to policy.
10. Maintain accurate patient records, ensure confidentiality, and adhere to HIPAA standards.

Additional Information

• Up to 16 hours of orientation is unpaid.
• The facility may cancel up to 3 shifts during the 13-week contract.
• Travelers living within 50 miles of the facility will receive a reduced local rate.
