Unit Profile

• Unit Type: Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)
• Number of Beds: 32
• Patient Ratios: 2:1
• Scheduling: 4-week schedules with 3-4 weekend shifts required per scheduling period
• Floating Policy: Float as needed based on unit census
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Equipment: Hill-Rom beds, Phillips telemetry monitors
• Support Staff: Student nurse externs as techs, unit secretary available Monday-Friday 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Required Experience & Skills

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Cardiac Nursing)
• Must Have: Cardiac experience and strong critical care experience
• Advanced Skills Preferred:

  • PA catheter and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
  • Impella device
  • Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) preferred
• Procedures Performed on Unit:

  • Central line insertion
  • Swan-Ganz catheter insertion
  • Intubations

Certifications & Licenses

• Required Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Certification
• Licenses: Registered Nurse License

• Dress Code: Scrubs (galaxy blue, red, black); scrub jackets or vests only
• The unit has a growing cardiogenic shock program with 12 beds dedicated to these patients
