ER RN Job Opportunity - Georgia (Hinesville)
Position Details
- Specialty: ER RN
- Location: Hinesville, Georgia
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7a, 12p, 3p, 7p)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Rotated with permanent staff
- Floating: No floating to Med-Surg required
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling allowed but requires manager approval; block scheduling allowed
- Call or Standby: None
Experience & Certifications
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of ER experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS
- Preferred Certifications: TNCC preferred
Work Environment & Patient Care
- Facility Type: Critical Access Hospital working toward Level IV trauma designation (not a STEMI or stroke receiving center)
- ER Beds: 18 beds including 3 trauma bays
- Patient Volume: Average 90 patients/day; up to 140 during peak season
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Generally 1:4-5 depending on acuity
- Common Patient Types: ABD pain, back pain, lacerations, influenza, COVID, shortness of breath, chest pain, stroke/CVA with TPA, psychiatric patients, motor vehicle accidents, some trauma (stabilize and transfer), DKA, sickle cell, hypertension, STEMI (sent out)
- Common Drips: All common ER/critical care drips
- Skills Required: Proficient with IVs and drips; ICU hold experience preferred; ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Experience Preference: Experience from smaller community hospitals preferred over typical CAH experience due to higher patient volume
ER Operations
- Triage: Separate triage area exists; travelers may work triage depending on experience
- ER Holds: No separate holding area; holds intermixed in ER and managed by ER nurses
- Psych/Safety Rooms: No separate psych area; 2 safety rooms available for psych patients
- Security: In-house security on weekends; working toward 24/7 coverage
- Physician Staffing: 1 MD and 1 mid-level provider during the day; working on adding a 3rd provider (mid-level)
- Charge Nurse: Present on every shift and takes patient assignments
- Support Staff: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) present with general tech duties, vital signs, lab draws, splinting, etc.
- Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7 (one RT on at night); nurses expected to troubleshoot vents, BiPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen
- Telemetry: Tele monitors in every room except safety rooms; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips
- Radiology: X-Ray and CT available 24/7 with in-hospital transport
- Lab Draws: Both RNs and techs draw labs
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation: Unit/department-specific orientation lasting 3 shifts
- Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs with matching scrub jacket or white jacket
Additional Information
- Ultrasound and vein finder available for ER and Med-Surg
- Pharmacy available in-house until 5 PM; resource nurse assists with medication mixing and instructions
- Masking policy: Not required if vaccinated; face mask and shield required if unvaccinated
- Emphasis on customer service and patient satisfaction
