    Description

    Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery Nurse (L&D)

    Location: Grand Coulee, Washington
    Contract Length: 26 weeks


    Required Certifications

    • ACLS
    • BLS
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring) — must have at least intermediate skill, advanced preferred

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum 1 year of experience in L&D, neonatal antepartum, and postpartum care
    • Must be able to work on an Acute MedSurg floor
    • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

    Unit Details

    • L&D Beds: 2 rooms
    • Postpartum beds are in acute care rooms if stay is longer than 24 hours
    • C-Sections performed in OR; OB nurses care for baby but do not circulate in OR
    • Birth volume: 50-60 births per year
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Generally 1:1, may occasionally be 1:2
    • No nurse aides or surgical techs on the unit; RNs handle all patient care
    • Charge nurse covers entire hospital, not specific to L&D unit

    Clinical Responsibilities

    • RNs are required to titrate drips (common drips: insulin, magnesium)
    • Monitor patients on magnesium sulfate without dedicated telemetry techs
    • Use of Fetal Link EFM system for fetal monitoring
    • Manage common diagnoses such as diabetes, gestational diabetes (GDM), advanced maternal age (AMA), and patients without prenatal care; high-risk patients are generally referred out

    Staffing & Scheduling

    • 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM and 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM
    • Schedules are typically set and blocked together, released 4 weeks in advance
    • Weekend requirement: Typically every other weekend
    • Holiday coverage: As needed
    • Floating: May be required to float to Acute MedSurg if no OB patients

    Additional Information

    • OB/Neonatologist coverage: Family Practice OBs available in clinic during the day; on-call after hours with ~20-minute response time
    • Anesthesia: On call
    • Respiratory therapy equipment available (nasal cannula, non-rebreather, high flow for newborns), but no RT staff on site
    • Department-specific orientation: 1 day on unit
    • Dress code: No specific scrub color required, but must be clean and professional
