Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (MLS) - Travel/Contract

Location: Laurel, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Start Date: January 5, 2026
Shift/Hours:

• 5 days per week, Monday to Friday
• 5x8 hour shifts, alternating evening and night shifts (3:30 PM - 12:00 AM / 11:30 PM - 8:00 AM)
• Flexibility required for shift changes if needed
• No weekends, no on-call required
• Floating within the department may be required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Laboratory (MLS) experience required
• First-time travelers accepted if they have strong experience
• Prior travel experience is NOT required

Licenses & Certifications

• ASCP certification required
• ASCP-MLS and BLS certifications preferred

Holidays & Weekends

• Holidays required as scheduled
• Weekends not required

Required Documents & Compliance

• I9 or Attestation
• Government Issued Photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• E-Verify or Attestation
• Background checks including 7-year criminal search, SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, education verification
• Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start (including Latex Screen)
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination)
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests NOT accepted)
• Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season
• COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking

Competency & Training Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
• Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
• Competency Exam (as applicable)
• Age Specific Competency Exam (required for all)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (not required for MLS)
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training as applicable
• Facility-specific training and documentation including badge photo, confidentiality agreement, dress code review, and job description acknowledgment

References & Employment History

• Two supervisory references required within 1 year of start
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)

Additional Notes

• Candidate must be flexible with shift assignments
• Floating within the department may be required
• All required documentation and health screenings must be completed timely, with some lab items required within 72 hours of contract signing

This position offers a structured schedule with alternating evening and night shifts, a defined contract length, and requires a minimum of 2 years of MLS experience. First-time travelers with strong experience are welcome to apply.
