Cardiopulmonary Therapist - Contract Position

Location: Bethel, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide full scope cardiopulmonary services to patients of all ages, ensuring care is delivered with respect for patient rights and dignity. Assist in problem-solving related to patient care.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an AMA accredited Respiratory Therapy program or equivalent, approved by the National Board for Respiratory Care with an AS Degree.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year clinical experience in respiratory treatment of hospital patients.
• Licenses/Certifications:

  • National Board of Respiratory Care credentials (CRTT, CRT, RT, or RRT) required.
  • Must pass BLS certification. ACLS and PALS certifications encouraged.
• Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret physician orders, technical manuals, and hospital policies.
  • Effective communication with physicians, managers, patients, and the public.
  • Ability to explain respiratory treatment modalities to patients and use interpreters if needed.
  • Accurate documentation and report writing skills.
  • Mathematical skills for dosage calculations and data interpretation.
  • Reasoning skills to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions.
• Technical Skills:

  • Airway management, CPR, intubation assistance, ventilator operation and management.
  • ABG procurement and analysis, chest physiotherapy, patient suctioning techniques.
  • Sample procurement (RSV, AFB), knowledge of respiratory therapy medications and delivery methods.
  • Pulmonary function testing (PFT).
• Equipment Experience:

  • Adult, pediatric, and infant ventilators, bag valve masks, pulse oximeters, suction equipment.
  • Oxygen cylinders and concentrators, nebulizers, supplemental oxygen delivery devices.
  • Pulmonary function equipment, treadmill/stress testing equipment, EKG machines, Holter/event monitors, ISTAT arterial blood gas analyzer.

Additional Requirements

• Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccinations required.

Certifications Required or Preferred

• ACLS (encouraged)
• BLS (required)
• PALS (encouraged)
• NRP (listed but not specified as required)
