Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Position Overview
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 12 weeks
- Facility: High acuity, high pace Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with float to postpartum/antepartum and sister Mother/Baby facilities
- Average Daily Census: 15 patients/day; 500-600 deliveries/month
- Unit Size: 31 rooms/beds
- Schedule: Posted every 6 weeks, includes every other weekend and holidays as needed
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience required (default to higher value: 5 years preferred)
- Experience in high acuity and high pace environments mandatory
- High risk obstetrics experience highly preferred; candidates with at least 3 years plus high risk experience considered
- Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
- Must have current supervisory references and proof of required certifications
- Must pass clinical review and provide proof of current NURSYS verification
Clinical Responsibilities
- Work in a high risk, high volume L&D unit with 4 operating rooms
- Function as Baby Nurse during delivery and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum (hard stop requirement)
- Circulate in the OR (hard stop requirement)
- Provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, thigh assessments (hard stop requirement)
- Administer medications such as Heparin, Insulin, Magnesium Sulfate
- Float to postpartum/antepartum and sister Mother/Baby facilities as needed
- Patient diagnoses include midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines
- Use EPIC electronic health record system and electronic fetal monitoring
Certifications Required
- Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications
- Must have current and verifiable certifications at time of submission
Float Policy
- Float policy acknowledgment required
- May be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Education verification required for all candidates
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors)
- Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Drug screen: 10 panel within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Respirator safety clearance required for travel candidates (annual)
- Fit mask testing required (annual) for travel candidates
Training and Competency Requirements
- Must complete Providence WorkRamp modules as assigned (pre-start, specialty-specific, annual regulatory)
- EPIC training modules required and must be completed within orientation period
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Color blindness testing if required by unit
- Skills checklists updated annually for applicable units
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have active compact license recognized by all Swedish facilities
- Pre-approved time off considered on a case-by-case basis
- No submission without proof of current NURSYS verification and supervisory references
- Candidates without required newborn care skills (circulate, newborn assessments, Vitamin K injections) will not be screened
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with strong high-risk obstetrics and newborn care skills, who have prior travel contract experience and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, high acuity Labor & Delivery environment.
