ICU RN Opportunity - Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
- Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days or less for the 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved
Unit Information
- Department: ICU
- Beds: 33 beds (average daily census 16)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Floating: Typically to PCU or occasionally MedSurg with ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- Nursing Responsibilities:
- Titrate drips (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation)
- Read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips (GE monitors) with tele tech oversight
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
Certifications & Requirements
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license at submittal (used to verify candidate is outside 50-mile radius)
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Pass/fail RN exam during orientation (open book, 90% required to pass)
- Cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
