Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Travel/Contract

Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Position: Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Shift: Night shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
  • Specialty Experience Required: Minimum 18 months recent and permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience
  • License: Must have permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
  • Certifications Required:
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Holiday Work: Must work at least every other holiday
  • Assessments:
    • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate test during orientation (passing score required)

Required Experience

  • Specialty: Minimum 18 months Med/Surg Telemetry experience (use higher value if discrepancy found)
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross (RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross (RQI acceptable)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) during orientation (SafeMedicate and ECG)
  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
  • State License Verification (primary source within 30 days of start)
  • NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
  • Fit Mask (N95) fit test within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years (official immunization record required)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
  • TB Questionnaire if history of positive TB, signed annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer, booster if negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B - Titer, series, or declination documentation required
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer, booster if negative/equivocal
  • Drug Testing - Standard 10 panel within 12 months, updated annually (instant tests not accepted)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
  • Eye Exam required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later

Background & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
  • Background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search
    • SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender registry, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually (code 4723.09 Nursing)
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; facility will also conduct fingerprinting
  • Education verification required for all candidates
  • 2 professional references required from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
  • Modules include mandatory training videos and tests; cannot be skipped
  • Pass/Fail ECG and medication testing during orientation
  • Candidates must pick up badge after module completion to be cleared to start
  • Candidates returning with less than 6 months gap may have some requirements waived

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to work night shifts and every other holiday
  • SafeMedicate and ECG testing are mandatory during orientation
  • Physical accommodations available for latex allergies (notification required)
  • PAPRs may be approved on a case-by-case basis for mask fit test failures due to facial hair with proper exemptions
  • Flu vaccine declinations are not accepted; exemptions require approval process

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or a compact state, comfortable with night shifts and holiday work, and able to meet comprehensive health, background, and competency requirements.
