Registered Nurse - Cardiac Floor
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Position on a cardiac floor requiring a minimum of 2 years cardiac experience.
- Traveler experience required unless candidate has over 24 months cardiac experience.
- Night shift only, 36 hours per week.
- Contract length accepted: 13-26 weeks.
- Patient ratios vary by acuity:
- Surgical step down: 1:4
- Lower acuity: 1:5-6
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekends per 4 weeks (flexible).
- Float requirement: follows unit rotation, not first to float.
- Contract staff expected to participate in Storm/Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters.
Required Skills & Experience
- Cardiac Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience.
- Sheath removal and management.
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Care for Post MI, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath patients.
- Management and titration of cardiac drips.
- Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), external CPAP/BIPAP, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
Preferred Skills
- Arterial line management.
- Wound care/Wound Vac.
- Charge nurse experience.
Patient Diagnoses
- Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, Aortic stenosis/regurgitation, Mitral Regurgitation/Stenosis, Endocarditis, Cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, Vasculitis, Carotid stenosis, Venous stasis.
- Sheath management and removal.
Special Procedures / Unit Details
- CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman procedure).
- VATS, Carotid endarterectomy, FEM-POP bypass, amputations, other vascular surgeries.
- Cardiac and thoracic surgeries, post cath, post DCCV, post electrophysiology procedures, pacemaker placements.
Special Equipment
- Arterial lines (optional), Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires.
Unit Systems
- Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), SBAR (communication).
Orientation & Dress Code
- Unit orientation: 24 hours.
- Scrubs color: Navy.
Testing & Compliance Requirements
- Must pass EKG (Dysrhythmia) competency testing prior to start.
- Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 90 days of start.
- Education verification required for highest degree related to profession.
- Drug testing within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
- Fit mask testing required (N95 or PAPR training).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Immunizations and titers required: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination).
- Negative TB or chest x-ray per protocol.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption required during flu season.
- COVID-19 vaccine no longer required for travel staff as of 6/8/2023.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours).
- Must complete Medication Safety training and submit certificate.
- Must sign confidentiality agreement and other facility-specific documents prior to start.
- Must provide a passport-style photo for badge creation.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care RNs.
- Performance evaluations required if worked with Aya over 1 year.
Notes
- No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation.
- Candidates will be interviewed prior to offer.
- Contract staff may be reassigned mid-contract as needed.
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac RNs comfortable with telemetry, stepdown care, and complex cardiac patient management on night shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
