Travel RN Opportunity - Progressive Care Unit
Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Overview
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Number of Beds: 29
- Patient Ratios: 4:1
- Patient Population: Heavy cardiac focus including post-cardiac surgery patients transitioning from ICU. Complex medical, cardiac, and surgical patients requiring intermediate care (e.g., sepsis, stroke, MI, heart failure, arrhythmias, post-op cardiac/thoracic/neurosurgery, respiratory failure, DKA).
- Equipment: Welch Allyn dynamaps, Phillips telemetry, Phillips MP2, Pyxis, Alaris pumps, Hill-Rom beds, iMobile devices, MobiLab
- Documentation System: Meditech
Schedule & Staffing
- 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Self-scheduling allowed within reason to balance staffing
- Schedule finalized 2 weeks in advance
- Block scheduling available for night shift
- Travel RNs float first, rotating by seniority of float date
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- Registered Nurse License
- NIH Certification
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in specialty (PCU, telemetry, or critical care)
- Cardiac/telemetry experience required
- Advanced skills needed:
- IV insertion
- Chest tube management
- DHT insertion/management
- Tracheostomy care
- Central venous catheter (CVC) management
- EKG interpretation
- Foley catheter management
- Early patient mobility
Procedures Commonly Performed
- Foley catheter placement
- IV insertion
- Wound vac management
- DKA management
- EKGs
- DHT/NG tube placement
- Patient ambulation and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs)

- Team-oriented environment with strong employee engagement and positive atmosphere
- Travel RNs are treated equally to core staff, with the exception of floating first
- High patient satisfaction and quality metrics
- Use of advanced technology including iMobile devices for communication and chart access, and MobiLab for specimen collection
- Wound documentation via iMobile device camera integrated with patient chart
- Experienced RNs available on both day and night shifts, including ICU-experienced staff
- Night shift has a higher proportion of travel RNs but resources are available on all shifts
