- Department: Stepdown (Progressive Care Unit)
- Number of Beds: 22
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Nurse Aide/Patient Care Tech Ratio: 1:10
- Common Diagnoses/Patient Types: Heart failure, Atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, stroke
- Fast-paced unit with frequent admissions and discharges

- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: PCU RN (Progressive Care Unit)

Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin)
- RNs must read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips (no tele/monitor techs reading strips for them)
- Respiratory therapy equipment involvement limited to troubleshooting CPAP
- Floating to ICU may be required if appropriate and experienced
Orientation & Training
- 1 shift (12 hours) of unit-specific orientation
- Pass/fail exam during orientation requiring a 90% score to continue (open book, resources provided)
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift Times: 0630-1900 (day), 1830-0700 (night)
- Scheduling: Cyclic scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 1 major and 1 minor holiday
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes a full patient assignment
Additional Notes
- Positive attitude, teamwork, and patient-centered care are important attributes for success
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in termination
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify distance compliance
