Description
Job Opportunity: Med/Tele/PCU RN
Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks

- ACLS
- BLS
Experience Requirements
- Must have PCU experience
- Tele/cardiac RN experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips required
- Epic experience preferred but not mandatory
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Med/Tele/PCU (more of a tele/cardiac unit)
- Number of Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day: 1:4-5
- Night: occasional 5-6
- PCU overflow: 1:3
- Common Patient Diagnoses:
- Adults and geriatrics
- Cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers
- Alcohol-related conditions
- COVID-19 (BiPAP support)
- General surgical patients with cardiac history
- Pneumonia, influenza, sepsis
- Acute on chronic conditions
Skills and Responsibilities
- RN required to titrate drips including: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, low dose Dopamine (No Levo)
- RN must read and interpret cardiac strips independently
- RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, trachs, Airvo
- Charge nurse present on each shift, occasionally takes a light patient load
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available with a goal ratio of 1:10
- Tele/Monitor techs present at nurses station and on portable monitors
Scheduling
- Shifts: 7a-7p and 7p-7a
- Rotation: 7-7 rotation will not occur more than weekly; manager may consider blocked schedules
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating: Required to float to PCU, Med/Surg, and some ER holds/boarding as needed
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) on Friday and Saturday of first week
- Independent after orientation Sunday
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Any color allowed
- Radius rule: Must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Tele/PCU RNs comfortable with cardiac care, titrating drips, and working in a fast-paced environment with a variety of adult and geriatric patients.
