Special Procedures Tech (Interventional Radiology Tech)

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Interventional Radiology (IR) Tech with previous IR/Cath Lab and moderate sedation experience. The role involves working in a busy Interventional Radiology unit with advanced imaging equipment and a variety of complex procedures.


Unit Information

  • Unit: Interventional Radiology
  • Beds: 2 single plane (GE) rooms, 2 biplane (Philips) rooms
  • Staffing:
    • 15 techs plus manager and Data/Quality Analyst
    • Nursing support for each room
  • Shifts:
    • Day: 2 techs + 1 nurse per room
    • Night: 1 tech + 1 RN onsite
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1
  • Equipment:
    • Single plane GE systems
    • Biplane Philips systems
    • Invasive CT scanner
  • EMR System: Cerner (Radnet)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Interventional Radiology specialty (highest required)
  • Previous experience in:
    • Interventional Radiology (scrub and circulate)
    • Neurointerventional Radiology (scrub and circulate)
  • Moderate sedation experience required
  • Certifications required:
    • ARRT Certification
    • BLS

Preferred Skills

  • Vascular OR experience
  • Cath Lab experience
  • VI Registered List procedures familiarity

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Dialysis work (Permcaths, fistulagrams)
  • Nephrostomy tubes
  • Arteriograms/embolizations
  • Y-90 treatments
  • G-tubes
  • TIPS procedures
  • Inari cases
  • Cerebral arteriograms, coilings, pipelines
  • Mechanical thrombectomies
  • Vertebroplasties

Work Environment and Culture

  • Flexible, team-oriented personality preferred
  • Scrub color and attire provided by hospital
  • Floating area: Vascular OR
  • Weekend and On-call requirements:
    • Every 7th weekend worked
    • One night secondary call during the week
