Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 months recent or prior experience in the specialty (Registered Nurse).
  • Circulating experience required.
  • Must have 18 months permanent or prior experience before travel assignment.
  • One recent reference from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director in the specialty is required for submission.

Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.


Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates. Must be current or renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for multiple specialties including Med/Surg, ICU, ER, etc. Must be current or renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, ERPediatric OR; preferred but not required for PACU.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, OB/GYN, and NICU.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER; preferred for other areas.
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts. License must be renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required for some units; must be renewed annually.
  • Pass/Fail Testing (ECG & Medication): Required for all bedside RNs (except OR RNs) during orientation.

Required Competencies and Exams

  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable.
  • Core Part I, II, III training required and must be updated annually.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for all nursing positions except OR.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including assessment of ability to perform essential job functions and Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing after 4/11/2025).
  • Fit Mask: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually (3M N95 masks).
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Vaccine required every 10 years.
  • Negative TB or Chest X-Ray: True 2-Step PPD or equivalent within 12 months, updated annually.
  • TB Questionnaire: Required annually if history of positive TB.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative or equivocal.
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination required.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative or equivocal.
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31) or approved medical/religious exemption.

Background Checks and Compliance

  • Background check required prior to start, including FCRA compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting.
  • Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract and results updated annually.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation.
  • Traveler must work at least every other holiday.
  • Photo for badge required for certain roles (e.g., OR Tech First Assistants).
  • Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory; modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • References: 2 references from employment within one year of start, from a manager, ANM, supervisor, charge nurse, or director. Co-worker references not accepted.
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.

Notes

  • Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending as long as fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
  • Physical exam and eye exam do not need to be updated annually if currently on assignment without a break in employment.
  • For return candidates with a gap of less than 40 days, some health documents may not need to be updated.
  • Pass/fail testing and SafeMedicate prep materials are not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap since last Cleveland Clinic contract.

This position is a travel/contract role requiring a Registered Nurse with at least 18 months of recent or prior experience, multiple certifications, health clearances, and compliance with facility-specific onboarding and testing protocols.
