Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Ambulatory OR RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Ambulatory Operating Room Registered Nurse
- Shift Options:
- 3 shifts of 12 hours (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
- 4 shifts of 10 hours (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
- One late week per 4 weeks to complete cases
- Weekend Requirement: No weekends required
- On-call: No
- Floating: Possible floating within Perioperative facility within scope
- Block Schedule: At manager's discretion
- Number of ORs: 9
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- Certifications Required:
- NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Radiation badge (must be provided by parent company)
- Preferred Experience: Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, ENT, GYN, GU, Endocrine, Surgical Oncology
- First-timers: Not accepted
- Local Candidates: Accepted within 60 miles radius
- Guaranteed Hours: Traveler may be called off up to 10 hours per 2-week period
- Precepting: May be required to precept a care team member in the OR
- Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Work Eligibility: Completed and accurate I-9 form and attestation confirming US work eligibility
- Identification: Copy of Driver's License/State ID and Social Security Card (or SSN confirmation)
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years including SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable unit
Certifications Requirements
- ACLS: AHA only; required for specific units (Adult Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Cath Lab, ER, ICU, Interventional Radiology, PACU, PCU, PreOp, Observation Unit)
- BLS: AHA or ARC only; required for all clinical staff
- PALS: Required for all Pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR; not required for Adult ER
- NRP: Must be through AHA/AAP; full eCard with QR code required
- TNCC: Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
- EFM: AWHONN or NCC acceptable
- Chemotherapy Certification: Required only for Oncology Hospital Unit (specific unit)
- Tech Certification: Required for Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, Sterile Processing Techs, Ultrasound Techs, Pathology Assistants, MLTs (ASCP or registry eligible)
- IV Therapy Certification: Required for select LPNs (if applicable)
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required (HIPAA attestation)
- State License:
- South Carolina RN license required (primary source verification)
- Walk-through (temporary) license option available for eligible candidates
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs and LPNs/LVNs
- Radiation Badge: Required for OR and related specialties; must be obtained before starting floor work
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and OR competency exams required; pediatric OR competency preferred but regular OR competency accepted if no pediatric experience
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually; specific mask models required
- Vaccinations:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be required for low titers
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days; annual TB questionnaire required
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- CBC and Biochem Panel: Required for Sterile Processing Techs only
- Respiratory Safety Clearance: Fit testing required; virtual questionnaire option available if needed
Facility Specific Requirements
- First Day Instructions (FDI) and Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; modules take approximately 2 hours and must be done on a computer (not phone)
- Badge Photo: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire; must be submitted by Wednesday before start week
- Physical Assessment for Sterile Processors: Required for Sterile Processing Techs, completed and signed by licensed provider within 1 year of start
- Radiation Badge Process: Must be initiated and obtained before starting clinical work; may take 5-7 days to process
Additional Notes
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application and approved based on facility needs
- Travelers may be called off up to 10 hours per 2-week period
- Candidates with background hits or licensure issues may not be eligible for temporary licensure/walk-through process
- Travelers with facial hair may be required to shave for fit testing or provide their own PAPR device
This position is ideal for experienced Ambulatory OR RNs with required certifications and South Carolina licensure, seeking a travel contract in Charleston with no weekend or on-call requirements.
