Registered Nurse (ICU) Travel/Contract Position
Location: Plainview, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details

- Total Staffed Beds: 49
- Level IV Trauma Center
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- On-call: Not required
- Block schedules: Not required
- Floating: No floating between units
- Nurse will work independently and may be the only nurse staffed in a low acuity ICU
- Charge nurse over Med-Surg unit preferred but not required
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year (1YR/1ST TIMERS OK)
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Other certifications may be required based on clinical track (e.g., NRP, CHEMO, EFM)
Licensure
- Valid RN license for Texas
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
Work Environment & Expectations
- Nurse must be able to work independently and manage charge nurse responsibilities in a low acuity ICU setting
- Expected to maintain patient care with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Wear street clothes in the OR if applicable
- Free parking available in unrestricted spaces
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Check: Must be completed within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- Drug Screen: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations & Health Documents:
- TDAP (within 10 years) or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Fit Mask Test: Required for travel nurses, updated annually
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps
Competency & Training Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
- Specialty-specific competency exams (e.g., EFM for L&D RNs)
- WorkRamp Modules:
- Pre-start and specialty-specific modules required
- Annual regulatory modules required
- Modules assigned based on region, specialty, and facility type
Additional Notes
- Nurse may be required to float to another Providence facility within a reasonable distance (Float Policy Acknowledgement required)
- Charge nurse experience preferred but not mandatory
- Must be able to work independently in a low acuity ICU setting where they may be the sole nurse on duty
This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working independently in a low acuity ICU environment and are willing to work weekend shifts on a rotating schedule.
