Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required, plus ICU experience
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Must be willing to float within scope to 3 nearby hospitals (within 20 miles)
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • Pending license accepted
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 hours for 3x12 shifts or 40 hours for 8/10 shifts
  • Epic experience level 3 or 4 required
  • Familiarity with cardiac drips required
  • Time-sensitive training modules must be prioritized

Required Certifications

  • BLS (AHA or American Red Cross) - must have at time of submission
  • ACLS (AHA or American Red Cross) - must have at time of submission
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - must be obtained prior to start
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, Chemo, EFM) but not specified for this role

Facility & Work Environment

  • Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
  • Total staffed beds: 332
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Smoke-free facility: All travelers must be nicotine-free (negative 10 panel drug screen + nicotine test required)
  • Free parking available

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of I9 or attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service
  • Background checks: 7-year criminal check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting mandatory)
  • Drug testing: Negative 10 panel drug screen plus nicotine within 1 year of start
  • Physical exam within 6 months of start
  • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (vaccines or titers required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
  • COVID vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
  • State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
  • Pass/Fail testing (EKG/Medication) during orientation required for RNs

Additional Notes

  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; late requests likely will not be approved
  • Candidates must complete online onboarding modules prior to start; modules are time-sensitive and must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome
  • Candidates must be nicotine-free with negative drug screen results; no exceptions
  • Floating to other hospitals within the system may be required within scope of practice

Summary of Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years PCU experience
  • ICU experience also required
  • Prior travel experience not required

This position is ideal for RNs with PCU and ICU experience who are comfortable working in a teaching hospital environment, have strong Epic skills, and can commit to a 13-week travel contract in Florida.
