Travel Nurse Opportunity: Med Surg Ortho RN

Job Details

• Assignment at a hospital in Central Nebraska
• Unit Type: Med Surg Ortho
• Number of Beds: 29
• Patient Types: Joint replacements, neuro-surgical, GI surgical, oncology, and general medical patients not requiring higher level care
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Tech Ratio: 1:10
• Charge Nurse: Yes, charge nurse takes patient assignments when needed
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Yes; RNs must be able to read basic cardiac rhythms
• Drip Titration: RNs are not required to titrate drips; common drips include PCAs
• Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 (12-hour shifts)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: As needed
• Floating: May float to Inpatient Rehab, Skilled Nursing, and Progressive Care Units with Med Surg appropriate assignments; may assist other departments without patient assignments depending on needs
• Orientation: 1 week classroom + 2 twelve-hour shifts on the floor
• Scrub Color: Navy Blue (scrubs provided)
• Nail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited; refusal to comply results in contract termination
• Radius Rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
• Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved

Certifications & Requirements

• Required: BLS Certification
• Preferred: ACLS Certification
• RN must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided) or face termination
• Valid Driver’s License required at submission to verify distance compliance
• Must be a team player: positive, flexible, dependable, willing to learn and adapt
• Fast-paced unit with fluctuating census, focused on hourly rounding, bedside shift report, nurse communication, and team nursing

Experience

• Specialty Experience: Med Surg Ortho RN (Orthopedics and Pediatrics experience preferred)
• Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ year Med Surg experience preferred
