Ultrasound Tech Registered (BMC-SON-UTRG)

Location: Normal, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Perform ultrasound procedures ensuring accurate and complete examinations for patients of all ages.
  • Exhibit competency in performing ultrasound procedures and obtaining required diagnostic images.
  • Knowledge of catheters, biopsy instruments, sterile trays; prepare these as necessary.
  • Obtain accurate patient histories and explain procedure rationale to patients/families.
  • Enhance image quality using appropriate transducers and machine settings.
  • Evaluate finished images to ensure diagnostic quality for radiologist review.
  • Maintain quality care throughout procedures.
  • Assess abdominal arterial and venous systems using color imaging.
  • Maintain working knowledge of ultrasound equipment operation, including troubleshooting hardware and software.
  • Maintain clean work area, stock supplies, and report equipment problems.
  • Assist radiologists with invasive procedures such as biopsies, including setting up sterile trays.
  • Order labs and pathology tests under radiologist direction.
  • Support Medical Imaging department functions to meet patient needs.
  • Train and guide fellow technologists and students.
  • Process images and paperwork promptly to ensure timely reporting.
  • Maintain and coordinate patient flow for efficient care.
  • Enter patient information accurately into HIS system.
  • Maintain QA, QC, and QI programs.
  • Foster a professional and respectful learning environment.

Education Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Sonography or Radiology.
  • Certificate of completion of a Radiologic Technology program.

Certifications & Licensure (Required)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • One of the following ARDMS certifications:
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen (RDMS-AB)
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics and Gynecology (RDMS-OB/GYN)
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Breast (RDMS-BR)
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Fetal Echocardiography (RDMS-FE)
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Neurosonology (RDMS-NE)
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Pediatric Sonography (RDMS-PS)
