Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a travel contract position in a high-risk antepartum/postpartum float pool. The role involves care for antepartum patients from 6 to 41 weeks gestation with conditions such as preterm labor, previa, preeclampsia, diabetes, hypertension, PROM, twins, and substance use disorder in pregnancy. The unit also cares for patients experiencing fetal demise or loss, and postpartum mothers with babies in the NICU (no newborn care on this unit).
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Candidates with less than 2 years or no experience with C-sections must be screened for intermediate AWHONN certification and require manager approval.
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
Unit & Clinical Responsibilities
- Float to Postpartum unit as needed.
- Support amniocentesis or sterile speculum exams at bedside.
- Manage PCA pumps, PICC/central lines, syringe pumps.
- Administer medications including heparin, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate.
- Circulate for C-section procedures.
Required Certifications
- AWHONN Advanced (Intermediate AWHONN acceptable with manager approval)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not required
Work Setting
- High Risk Antepartum Unit
- Postpartum Unit (float)
Skills & Competencies
- Assist with sterile speculum exams (assessing effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
- Maintain central lines (CVC/PICC)
- Administer anticoagulants, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy
- Labor and delivery management including circulating for C-sections
Scrub Requirements
- Any color scrubs allowed; scrubs provided when floated to Labor & Delivery units.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
- Education verification required for nursing degree.
- State-specific searches and registry checks as required by Washington state law.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TDAP (within 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Respirator clearance required for travel candidates (annual).
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates (annual).
References & Employment History
- Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
Additional Requirements
- Float policy acknowledgment required; may be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance.
- Completion of required WorkRamp training modules prior to start, including specialty-specific and regulatory compliance modules.
- Epic training modules may be required depending on region and facility.
