Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Cardiac ICU preferred)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule & Environment

  • Shifts: 7 AM - 7:30 PM / 7 PM - 7:30 AM (36 hours day/night)
  • Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift)
  • No call required
  • Rotating holidays
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Unit will not rotate travelers more than once every 4 weeks
  • Estimated patient ratios: 1:1-2

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac ICU experience preferred (use higher if conflicting info)
  • Prior travel experience preferred (not required)
  • Required skills: IV start, telemetry, ventilators, Swan-Ganz catheters, conscious sedation, balloon pumps, PA lines
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • Valid nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Background checks monitored monthly (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (mask required if declining) during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement

Notes

  • No return to office (RTO) accepted between 2/15/26 and 2/28/26
  • Facility-specific fingerprinting and background check procedures must be followed
  • Travelers can renew BLS and ACLS certifications at the facility if needed

This position is ideal for experienced cardiac ICU nurses with strong critical care skills and EPIC experience, seeking a structured travel contract with a reputable healthcare system in Ohio.
