Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Unit, Hematology Oncology)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (days, nights, or combination)
- Shift Scheduling: Reviewed every 4 weeks; changes based on staffing needs, not guaranteed
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday-Friday day shift orientation
- Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with preceptor
- Floating: May float to other Med/Surg and Oncology units
- Staffing Ratios: Goal 1:4, can be 1:5
- Weekend Work: Variable based on unit needs
- Self-Scheduling: Nurses enter preferred schedules before final posting
Experience Requirements
- Med/Surg experience: Required
- Hematology/Oncology experience: Preferred but not required
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 2 years in specialty (Med/Surg) based on typical requirements
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
Patient Diagnoses
- Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Acute and Chronic Leukemias
- Sickle Cell Disease
- Other non-hematologic cancers
- Benign hematology conditions
Special Procedures / Unit Details
- Chemotherapy administration
- Blood transfusions
- IV antibiotics
- Management of oncologic emergencies (tumor lysis syndrome, cytokine release syndrome)
- Insulin and heparin drips
- Strong focus on infection prevention and patient fall prevention
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
ONS certification preferred but not required
Required Skills and Competencies
- Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- IV therapy and phlebotomy
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care and management
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- Computerized charting (EPIC)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
- Education verification from accredited nursing programs
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and no contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination not required but recommended
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leader)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Unit-specific competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must be current within 1 year and updated annually)
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
