ICU RN Opportunity - Kearney, Nebraska
Position Details
- Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse (ICU RN)
- Location: Kearney, Nebraska
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Department: ICU
- Unit Size: 33 beds (average daily census 16)
- Shift Hours: 0630-1830 (day), 1830-0630 (night)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
- Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days or less of a 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Floating: Typically to PCU or occasionally MedSurg with ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
- Nurse Aides: Available based on census; assist with 1:1s or floor support
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- Monitors/Telemetry: GE monitors; RNs read, interpret, and document strips; tele tech oversight present
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
Certifications & Requirements
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Driver’s License: Required at submittal to verify candidate is outside a 50-mile radius
- Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited; refusal to comply results in contract termination
Experience Requirements
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU RN experience (interpreted from contract length and typical expectations)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
This position is suitable for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care patient populations, titrating drips, telemetry monitoring, and working in a fast-paced trauma and cardiac ICU environment.
