Job Description
- Assist cardiologists in performing invasive and diagnostic/interventional cardiac, vascular, and electrophysiologic (EP) procedures.
- Perform technical hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation using automated techniques.
- Set up and operate electrical/imaging equipment and computers.
- Interpret hemodynamic and procedural results/outcomes.
- Operate monophasic and biphasic defibrillators.
- Communicate and educate patients during procedures to alleviate anxiety.
- Recognize and assist with anesthesia needs for sedated or anesthetized patients.
- Collaborate with research staff on laboratory-based research.
- Train and mentor team members.
- Manage and troubleshoot equipment, ensuring safety and proper function.
- Maintain aseptic technique and assist in passing sterile guidewires, catheters, and other devices.
- Prepare instruments for sterilization and sterile fields.
- Accurately interpret EKGs and alert physicians to irregular activity.
- Advocate for patient needs and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of applicable experience in cardiovascular invasive radiologic technology.
- Knowledge of hemodynamic concepts, cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Competency in moderate sedation administration and protocols.
- Understanding of EP concepts, fluoroscopic anatomy, and physiology.
- Ability to recognize and assist in treatment of complications from cardiac/vascular/EP procedures.
- Proficient in sterile technique and preparation specific to cardiac/vascular procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of supplies and equipment used in cardiac/vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Ability to connect and monitor physiologic equipment properly.
- Knowledge of radiation safety and imaging equipment use.
- Advanced EKG interpretation and arrhythmia recognition skills.
- Data analysis and interpretation related to device implantation and function.
- Proficient in procedure setup.
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, web browsing).
- Multicultural sensitivity.
Education Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in a related field
OR - Certificate of completion for Radiology Program
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) License in Radiologic Technology
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - American Heart Association
- ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) Registration in Radiology
