Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (1800-0630)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract


Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
  • Required Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
  • Licensing: Active Illinois state license required (no pending licenses accepted)

Work Schedule & Conditions

  • Weekend work: Every other weekend required
  • On-call: Required as needed
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block schedule: Open to discussion with manager
  • Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

  • Oxygen Therapy Skills:
    • Bag and mask
    • ET Tube
    • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
    • T-Piece
    • Trach collar
    • Venturi masks
  • Ventilator Management Skills:
    • BiPAP
    • CPAP
    • Troubleshooting high pressure alarms
    • Weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Teaching hospital experience
    • Community hospital experience
    • Trauma Level I and II experience

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Various state-specific criminal and registry searches required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required (official or unofficial transcripts accepted if pending)
  • Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates
  • Badge photo required before start date
  • Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgments required

This position is suitable for respiratory therapists with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a Level I trauma acute care hospital setting, with required certifications and an active Illinois license. Prior travel experience is not required.
