ER RN Travel Opportunity - Illinois (Freeport)

Position Details

• Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
• Location: Freeport, Illinois
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Schedule: Various shifts including 7a-7p, 10a-10p, 11a-11p, 12p-midnight, 7p-7a
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or as needed
• Holiday Requirement: Rotates with core staff; likely working some holidays but not all
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: Potential to float to Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, ICU; may assist or take full patient load depending on experience

Experience & Certifications

• Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years of ER nursing experience
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers welcome)
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TNS
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• Licensing: Illinois RN license required

Department & Patient Care

• Trauma Level: Non-trauma emergency care; STEMI/Stroke ready; cath lab available depending on day/hours
• ER Beds: 24 beds total, including 4 behavioral health safe rooms
• Patient Volume: 60-80 patients per 24 hours
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4-5, adjusted based on acuity and staffing
• Patient Population: Neonates to geriatrics; wide range of diagnoses including respiratory viruses, trauma (stubbed toe to MI, MVA), behavioral health
• Common Procedures: Moderate sedation, lumbar puncture, management of critical care drips
• Support Staff:

  • ED techs (CNA/EMT/Paramedic) assist with EKGs, blood draws (phlebotomy experience required), wound care, transport, vitals, room stocking/cleaning
  • Respiratory Therapists available as needed; nurses may perform breathing treatments
  • Monitor techs staff the ED monitors; RNs interpret monitor data
  • Imaging (X-Ray/CT) located adjacent to ER; transport usually by ED techs, sometimes nurses

Work Environment

• Security: In-house 24/7, close to ER and available on request
• Triage: Separate triage area within the department; travelers typically not assigned to triage
• Holding Area: Intermixed with ER patients; cared for by ER nurses
• Psych/Seclusion Rooms: 4 behavioral health safe rooms within ER beds; ER nurses provide care
• Scrub Code: Solid professional colors

Orientation

• 2 shifts (12 hours each) of department-specific orientation
• HR onboarding for badge and administrative setup
