ER RN Travel Job - Iron Mountain, Michigan
Position Details
- Specialty: ER RN
- Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
- Contract Length: 13 weeks

Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience
- Open to first-time travelers and duo assignments
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Facility & Unit Information
- Trauma Level IV (No stroke or STEMI receiving; these patients are sent out)
- 14 beds with 2 trauma bays
- Fast Track available with 3 designated rooms
- Separate triage area with 2 rooms; travelers may triage after policy review
- Holding areas intermixed with ER and attached Acute Care Unit (ACU) rooms for overflow
- Separate psych/seclusion rooms available; any room can be converted as needed
- No 24/7 in-house security; relies on maintenance and local police backup
Patient & Staffing Details
- Average patients treated per day: 40-60
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4 during the day; higher ratios at night (after 11 pm)
- Night staffing: 2 RNs from 3 am to 7 am
- Common patient types: traumas, STEMI, strokes, motor vehicle accidents, farming injuries
- Common drips: variable
- ED Physicians and Mid-Levels available 24/7 in-house
- Charge nurse takes assignments, typically during day shifts
- Support staff includes CNAs, medics, and LPNs who float for tasks; no dedicated ER team
- Respiratory Therapists available 24/7 for ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKG assistance
- No monitor techs; RNs read their own cardiac strips
- X-Ray and CT available 24/7 nearby
- Phlebotomy available 24/7; draws labs (not RNs)
Scheduling & Work Hours
- Shift lengths: 7, 10, or 12 hours; primarily 12-hour shifts (7a-7p, 7p-7a, 10a-10p, 3p-3a)
- Scheduling done by manager; attempts to avoid alternating 1 on/1 off shifts
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays during winter; usually every other holiday during contract
- Call/standby: voluntary to go home without pay
- Floating: may be required to float to inpatient units for assistance
Dress Code & Orientation
- Scrub color: any solid color, clean and professional
- Orientation: computer-based training plus 2 days floor orientation (including policies and department specifics)
Additional Notes
- Clinicians who have previously worked for this healthcare system must have a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
- All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
