Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Indianapolis, Indiana

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (Telemetry, Neuro experience, and management of drips required)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First time travelers accepted)

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Must be flexible with weekend shifts; expected to work 50% of weekends during the contract.
  • Refusal to float to other units may result in contract termination.
  • Floating may include Med-Surg, PCU, ICU levels of care.
  • May be required to precept or have students shadow during assignment.
  • Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with training.
  • Staffing ratios typically 1:3-4, rarely 1:5 during emergencies.
  • Patient population includes CVAs, hydrocephalus, brain tumors/resections, seizures, TBIs, trauma cases (shootings, stabbings, MVCs), GI surgeries, and large wound care.

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Preferred Skills

  • Conscious Sedation experience
  • Level 1 Trauma experience

Licensing & Compliance

  • Must have a valid RN license (Indiana license verification required)
  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and education verification required
  • Drug screening (10 panel) within 12 months required
  • Physical exam within 12 months required
  • Fit mask test within 12 months required (specific respirators approved)
  • Immunizations and titers required or strongly recommended:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific orientation, competency exams, and safety training modules prior to start.
  • Must provide at least 2 professional references from recent employment with supervisory titles.
  • Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps required.
  • Skills checklist must be current within 12 months.
  • Must comply with all facility-specific documentation and compliance checklists.

Important Notes

  • Locals are not accepted for this travel position.
  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
  • On-site fit testing is limited and must be approved; PAPR use is facility approved at Methodist and University hospitals.
  • Call-in shifts must be made up or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of telemetry and neuro experience who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and who are comfortable working in a high-acuity, trauma-informed teaching hospital environment.
