Job Summary: Registered Nurse (ED RN – Days)

Location: Largo, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (interpreted as 13 weeks)
Start Date: 01/26/2026
Shift/Hours: 3x12 hour day shifts (07:30 - 20:00), every other week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
Holiday Requirement: Required as scheduled
Floating: Required within specialty as needed
On-call: Scheduled on-call not required
Patient Age Group: All age ranges
Patient Diagnoses: Chest Pain, Stroke, Sepsis, Cardiac Arrest, Trauma, Respiratory Illness, Respiratory Arrest
Average Daily Census: 140
Beds: 46
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4, up to 1:5 with lower acuity patients
Special Equipment: Belmont (trauma), Giraffe warmer (neonates), Rapid infuser, Lucas device (cardiac arrests)


Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Emergency Department)
  • Years of Experience Required: 5 years (travel experience required but will consider first-time travelers with 5+ years experience)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Travel experience required; however, first-time travelers with 5+ years experience will be considered

Licenses & Certifications Required

  • Maryland RN State License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification (must be updated annually)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - required as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Other certifications may be required as applicable (e.g., NRP, CHEMO, EFM, STABLE)

Systems & Competencies

  • EPIC charting system experience required
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (score 80% or higher)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
  • Competency Exam (score 80% or higher)
  • Age Specific Competency Exam (score 80% or higher)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (score 80% or higher)

Compliance & Background Checks

  • I9 or Attestation required
  • Government Issued Photo ID required
  • E-Verify or Attestation required
  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
  • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
  • Education verification for highest level of education
  • Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
  • Felonies within past 5 years are automatic decline; older felonies require review

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (including Latex Screen)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children; not required for ER RN unless Peds ER)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
  • TB Questionnaire if positive TB result (within 2 weeks prior to start)
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; series not accepted)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required Oct 6 - Mar 31)
  • COVID vaccine no longer required for this location, but documentation collected for tracking

Additional Requirements

  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start (Charge RNs, Supervisors, or Managers)
  • Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
  • Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)
  • Passport/badge style photo with solid white/beige background required
  • Candidate must sign job description, confidentiality agreement, dress code, and other facility-specific documents prior to start
  • Security ID application must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract

Notes

  • Floating within specialty may be required
  • Scheduled on-call shifts are not required
  • Candidates may test out of Epic training if eligibility criteria are met and test score is 85% or higher
  • Compliance with all facility-specific policies and documentation is mandatory

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with strong EPIC skills and required certifications, who are comfortable working a 3x12 day shift schedule with every other weekend and holiday coverage. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory for candidates with 5+ years of experience.
