Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical Nursing with focus on Urology/Nephrology
- Shift: Day shift (06:45 AM - 07:15 PM)
- Unit: 25 bed unit, average daily census 23
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: Floating within scope to other Medical Surgical units required
- Block Scheduling: May try to accommodate but not guaranteed
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- On-call: Not required
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty; must have >2 years in medical/surgical nursing
- First-time Travelers: Accepted if solid RN foundation and >2 years med/surg experience
- Licensure: Active Illinois RN license required (pending licenses not accepted)
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty
- Competency: Cerner electronic charting experience required
Clinical Skills & Knowledge Required
- Work Setting Experience: Medical-Surgical and Telemetry
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Telemetry remote monitoring, use of Rapid Response Teams
- Genitourinary/Renal Skills: Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure care
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, IV starts
- Medication Skills: Heparin administration
- Respiratory Care: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, portable oxygen tank
- Professional Knowledge: Isolation precautions, wound care including Wound Vac
Additional Requirements
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusion lists
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- State-Specific Checks: Illinois Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, and other state registry searches within 30 days of start
- References: Two professional references required for clinical candidates
- Photo for Badge: Required within one week of contract signing
