Position Details

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of strong transplant experience (Liver transplant experience is a hard requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted if they meet experience criteria

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • Regulatory Charting for Transplants
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - AHA NRP only
  • Other certifications may be required depending on the cost center (e.g., CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification)

Licensure

  • Must have an Indiana RN license, temporary license, or compact license at the time of start
  • Online verification of license required within 30 days before start date

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Call Requirement: Yes, 40-60 hours per 6-week period
  • Float Requirement: Yes, multi-specialty including all surgeries
  • Shift Options:
    • 8 and 10-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week
    • 3 twelve-hour shifts totaling 36 hours per week
    • 4 twelve-hour shifts totaling 48 hours per week
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Key Job Requirements

  • Experience with liver transplant procedures is mandatory (hard stop)
  • Must have experience performing recipient procedures involved in liver transplant
  • Multi-specialty float required

Facility & Unit Information

  • The unit focuses solely on abdominal transplants; pediatric transplants are not included
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Parking: Free

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific respirators approved)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Immunizations and titers required or strongly recommended:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
    • Rubeola (Measles) - positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Mumps - positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Rubella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season
  • Tuberculosis testing within 1 year of start (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT)
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with minimum 100% score

Background & Documentation

  • Background check required within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, criminal checks, sex offender registry, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Transcript or diploma (official copies) required; may be pending at start but must be obtained
  • Education verification by third party; may be pending at start but must be obtained
  • Skills checklist required within 12 months of start and annually
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment, verified within 2 years
  • Employment application current and complete with explanations for gaps over 30 days

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific orientation packets and compliance checklists required prior to start
  • Mandatory completion of required training modules (22 modules) for certain roles, with strict deadlines before orientation
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit competency exam required

This position is ideal for experienced transplant RNs with strong liver transplant skills who are comfortable with multi-specialty float and call responsibilities. The role requires compliance with extensive health, background, and certification requirements to ensure readiness for this specialized acute care environment.
