ICU RN Travel Job - Bay City, Texas

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Certifications

• ACLS
• BLS
• PALS (must have PALS certification in hand to start)
• TNCC
• Preferred: NIHSS

Experience Requirements

• Preferred 2-3 years ICU experience (use 3 years as required)
• Must be very competent with ventilators or capable of being educated on them

Schedule

• 36/48 rotating schedule (36 hours guaranteed per week)
• 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM)
• 5 days on / 5 days off, then 2 days on / 2 days off matrix
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required

Unit Details

• 6 ICU beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • 2:1 standard
  • 3:1 for low acuity (stepdown)
  • 1:1 for high acuity
• Charge nurse role included (takes patient load)
• No nurse aides unless needed for 1:1 care
• No tele/monitor techs; nurses monitor their own patients

Patient Care

• Common diagnoses: Afib, RVR, Sepsis, Respiratory failure, Severe anemia, GI bleeds, lower acuity trauma, DKA, fresh total joint replacements
• All ICU patients in one unit; major medical issues shipped out except stroke patients (TPA administered in-house)
• Drips: cardiac, sedation meds, antiarrhythmics, Sandostatin, insulin
• Ventilator: Puritan Bennett 840

Support Staff & Resources

• Hospitalist on site 12 hours/day plus call; ER doctor in house 24/7
• Respiratory therapist available 6 AM - 9 PM, then on-call
• PICC team available if needed; no dedicated IV team
• Pharmacy available 6 AM - 9 PM; house supervisor mixes meds after hours, pharmacist on call

Orientation & Training

• 2-day floor-specific orientation
• Health education/testing modules required the week prior to start (time varies by individual)

Additional Notes

• Floating to MedSurg or ER depending on traveler’s experience (ER experience preferred for ER patients)
• Limited return to origin (RTO) policy
• Scrub colors allowed: Grey, Navy blue, or Black
