Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Oncology)

Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)


Job Description

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Shift hours vary between 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM and 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Provide professional nursing care to oncology patients following established standards and practices
  • Assist providers in patient care and education
  • Participate as a member of the healthcare team to engage patients, families, and caregivers in care coordination

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience (highest required experience)
  • 1 year general nursing experience also noted, but oncology experience is specific

Certifications & Licenses

  • Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS), with renewal every two years
  • Must have either:
    • Bio/chemo or fundamentals course from Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) (a 2-year certification to administer chemotherapy), OR
    • Ability to complete this course within 2 weeks of hire

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of nursing principles, patient care, diagnostic and treatment procedures
  • Understanding of medication effects and patient education principles
  • Familiarity with safety hazards and precautions
  • Basic knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies
  • Strong problem-solving, prioritization, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to administer various medications and treatments and use examination and treatment equipment

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
