Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry)
- Location: Akron, Ohio
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience prior to travel.
- Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license.
Certifications Required
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Certifications must be current; candidates with certifications expiring within 30 days of start must renew prior to starting.
Licensure & Background Checks
- Permanent Ohio license or compact state license required.
- Background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- SSN Trace
- Nationwide and state checks
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification
- Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results updated annually.
- Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending but must complete prior to start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titers; boosters if titers negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if needed
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
Competencies & Testing
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication dosing during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6-month gap between contracts).
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement.
- Core training modules must be completed prior to start (online training modules).
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar area.
- Candidates must complete onboarding modules prior to clearance to start.
- Candidates must comply with facility-specific policies and documentation requirements.
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or a compact state, seeking a night shift travel assignment with a reputable healthcare system.
