Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Cath Lab (Travel/Contract)

Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Prior Travel Experience Required: No indication that prior travel experience is required
  • License: Must have Alaska RN license in hand for auto offer; pending license accepted but must be in hand before auto offer
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Skills: Per Unit Description (UD)
  • On-Call Requirement: Yes, 1 day per week plus 4th/5th weekend (Friday 1800 to Monday 0730)
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, on-call and approximately 1 Saturday per month as part of scheduled shifts
  • Floating: May float within scope to Electrophysiology (EP) or Interventional Radiology (IR)
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 50 miles from facility)
  • Time Off: One time off request per 13-week assignment, approved individually
  • Guaranteed Hours: 70 hours per 2 weeks; may be called off for one 10-hour shift per 2 weeks

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Check: Must be within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
  • Education Verification: Required for all candidates; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests); negative results only
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Respirator Fit Testing: Required for travel candidates, updated annually
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
  • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format; 7 years for APN/subcontractors
  • Skills Checklist: Required for applicable units, updated annually

Certifications & Competencies

  • Must maintain current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation accepted)
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, CPI, NIH Stroke, Chemotherapy, EFM, IV Certification, MAB) as required per unit description
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing if required by unit
  • Competency exams specific to specialty/unit as applicable

Scheduling & Floating

  • 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each
  • On-call 1 day per week plus 4th/5th weekend coverage
  • Floating to EP or IR units within scope of practice
  • No block scheduling accommodation

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be non-local (residence at least 50 miles away)
  • Time off requests limited to one per 13-week assignment
  • Scrubs provided by facility
  • Epic charting system used

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of Cath Lab experience, who holds an active Alaska RN license, and is comfortable with on-call and weekend responsibilities in a Magnet, Level II Trauma acute care hospital setting. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
