Job Opportunity: Alternate Birthing Center Nurse
Location: Bloomington, Illinois
Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D) - Alternate Birthing Center (LDRP)
Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday (includes major holidays and eves)
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Hospital-wide float as needed (tasking/team nursing model)
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
Unit Information
- Beds:
- 12 LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) rooms
- 2 triage rooms
- Annual Deliveries: Approximately 700 per year
- Staffing Ratios:
- Labor: 1:1
- Postpartum couplet care: 1:3
- Charge Nurse: Present each shift without patient assignment
- Support Staff: OB techs and unit secretaries on day shift; OB tech on night shift
- Neonatology: Neonatologist in-house 24/7
- Equipment:
- CPAP for level II nursery (with RT assistance)
- Obix EFM system with Phillips fetal monitors
Required Certifications & Skills
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP
- Experience:
- Skilled in labor and delivery (vaginal and C-section)
- Preferred skills in all LDRP and nursery areas
- Common Patient Types: Laboring mothers, postpartum mothers, nursery newborns (level II nursery)
Additional Requirements
- Active Illinois nursing license or proof of application in process
- Negative drug screen (drug-free campus policy)
- Local clinicians within 50 miles may have adjusted rates (informational only)
Summary
This position is ideal for experienced L&D nurses skilled in labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursery care, with required certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NRP. The role involves working 12-hour shifts with every other weekend and holiday requirements, no call or standby, and hospital-wide floating as needed. Neonatology support is available 24/7. Orientation is provided for 2-3 shifts.
