    Job Opportunity: PACU/PreOp RN

    Location: Issaquah, Washington


    Position Overview

    Seeking a licensed and experienced PACU RN for immediate start at a surgery center.


    Contract Length

    • 13 weeks

    Required Experience

    • Minimum 1 year of experience in PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
    • Prefer experience in a similar setting
    • Some experience with pediatric patients preferred
    • Proficiency with IV starts and IV restarts preferred
    • First-time travelers are acceptable if able to complete a 3-day orientation and "hit the ground running"

    Certifications Required

    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

    Unit Details

    • PACU has Phase 1 & Phase 2 with a total of 12 beds
    • Staffing: 9-10 RNs during open hours
    • Patient Ratios: Phase 1 (1:2), Phase 2 (1:3)
    • Nurses typically assigned to either Phase 1 or Phase 2 for the day, with occasional assistance in Pre-Op tasks (IV starts, vital signs, patient assistance)

    Common Cases

    • Orthopedics, total joint replacements
    • ENT surgeries, septoplasty
    • Trauma and fractures
    • Sports medicine cases, shoulder/knee arthroscopies
    • Spinal surgeries
    • Both adult and pediatric patients

    Job Duties

    • Discharge and educate patients
    • Stocking supplies, cleaning rooms, checking crash carts
    • General department duties and maintaining productivity during downtime
    • Pre-Op patient intake, vital signs, IV starts, OR prep, post-op calls
    • General telemetry knowledge with ability to recognize lethal rhythms (3-lead telemetry used)
    • No ICU patient recovery in PACU

    Schedule & Shifts

    • Monday to Friday, 10 or 12-hour shifts as needed
    • Possible schedules: 4/10’s or 3/12’s, varying start times (7:00-9:30 AM for extended days)
    • May include Monday, Wednesday, Friday shifts to fill schedule needs
    • No weekend, weeknight, or holiday call requirements

    Orientation & Training

    • Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts in the department
    • 3-day orientation for first-time travelers

    Additional Information

    • EMR system: SIS
    • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor present during day shifts, hands-on and floats as needed
    • CNAs assist with patient care, bay turnover, cleaning, stocking, and wheelchair transport
    • Respiratory Therapy equipment rarely used; patients typically extubated prior to PACU
    • No floating required; occasional Pre-Op assistance if experienced
    • Dress code: Scrubs provided; personal caps allowed if entering OR; street clothes allowed on arrival

    Prior Travel Experience

    • Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted with orientation
