Job Opportunity: ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed Nurse

Location: Turtle Lake, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• TNCC

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in specialty
• Prior travel experience not required

Unit Details

• Department: ER / MedSurg / Swing Bed Unit
• Trauma Level: Critical Access (Rural Location)
• Number of Beds: 25
• EMR System: EPIC
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:8 (team nursing model)
• Charge Nurse: Yes, with team assignments (no individual assignments)
• Nurse Aides/CNAs present on each shift

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Dementia, dependent older adults
• Diabetes
• Rehab/restorative care post-acute illness
• COVID-19 patients
• Wound care
• Initial trauma care in ER
• Exacerbation of chronic illnesses
• Geriatric population
• General rehab post-surgery

Skills & Responsibilities

• Understanding of dementia, stroke, and skin care for geriatric patients
• RNs required to titrate drips including electrolytes, hypertensive meds, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
• RNs must read and interpret cardiac monitor strips (no Tele/Monitor Techs)
• Respiratory equipment managed includes CPAP only; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage other RT equipment

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 06:45-19:15 and 18:45-07:15
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Alternating or as scheduled (usually every other holiday)
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating between ER and MedSurg support required
• Team/block scheduling possible upon request

Orientation & Other Details

• Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts
• Scrubs provided, no specific color required
• Radius rule: Must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity)
• Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
