Travel RN Step Down Nurse Opportunity

Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Specialty: RN Step Down
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Unit & Patient Care

  • 34 Bed Stepdown/PCU Unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5 (may fluctuate with census)
  • Meditech EMR system used
  • Schedule: 36 hours on / 48 hours off over a two-week pay period
  • Orientation offered bi-weekly

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years current RN Step Down experience required
  • Must hold a Kentucky nursing license or a compact license valid in Kentucky
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIH Certification required
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Certifications & Health Requirements

  • BLS (AHA card, front and back if not electronic)
  • ACLS (AHA card, front and back if not electronic)
  • NIH Certification (required for RN specialties except OR and Psych)
  • Nursys verification within 30 days of start
  • Proof of vaccinations or positive titers required prior to start:
    • MMR (2 vaccinations or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (3 vaccine series or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccinations or positive titer)
    • Tdap (valid 10 years from administered date; declinations accepted)
    • Influenza vaccine (seasonal, October-March; exemptions require approval)
  • TB Quantiferon blood test within one year prior to start
  • Annual physical or physician note within 1 year prior to start stating "clear to work" without restrictions

Background & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days prior to start including:
    • 7-year county criminal check
    • Nationwide criminal, SSN trace, sex offender registry, SAM, OIG checks
  • Drug screen within 30 days prior to start (excluding marijuana/THC)
  • Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry verification within 30 days prior to start (Kentucky)
  • Social Security Trace, OIG Search, EPLS, OFAC, SAM, and National Sex Offender checks as part of background
  • Education and Employment verifications required (7 years of relevant experience to verify employment)
  • Two professional references required (one charge or higher, one supervisor reference within last year)

Skills & Competency Testing

  • Unit-specific skills checklist within one year prior to start
  • Competency exam within one year prior to start (actual documents required, no certificates)
  • EKG and Telemetry exam within one year prior to start (actual documents required)
  • Core competencies including HIPAA, Patient Bill of Rights, Safety Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire Safety, Infection Control, Elder Abuse and Neglect, Age Specific Care, Cultural Diversity, Advance Directives (annual update required)

Additional Notes

  • Must reside within 100 miles of the facility to be considered
  • COVID-19 vaccine required or approved exemption through ARH
  • Assignment confirmation form must be submitted within 24 hours of offer acceptance
  • Candidates should not be submitted to more than one job at a time

This position is ideal for experienced Step Down RNs who meet licensure and certification requirements and are ready for a travel assignment in Kentucky.
