Travel RN Step Down Nurse Opportunity

Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Specialty: RN Step Down
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Unit & Patient Care

  • Assignment on 3South Stepdown unit
  • Patient ratios typically 1:4 or 1:5
  • Previous PCU/Stepdown experience required

Licensure & Certifications Required

  • Kentucky RN license or compact license valid for KY
  • BLS (American Heart Association only; front and back of certificate if not electronic card)
  • ACLS (AHA only; required for all RNs except Psych and True Med/Surg units)
  • NIH Certification (required for RN specialties except OR and Psych)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years nursing experience (dependent on specialty)
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Orientation & Scheduling

  • Orientation offered bi-weekly
  • Schedule typically 36 hours worked / 48 hours off over two weeks
  • Start date on job posting is the needed start date
  • Candidate must reside within 100 miles of the facility

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Proof of 2 MMR vaccinations or positive titer (or appropriate booster doses)
  • Proof of 3 Hepatitis B vaccine series or declination
  • Annual Influenza vaccine (October-March) or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Proof of 2 Varicella vaccinations or positive titer (or appropriate booster doses)
  • Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (declinations accepted)
  • TB Quantiferon blood test within one year prior to start
  • Annual physical or health statement signed by MD, DO, PA, or NP stating "clear to work" and free of restrictions

Background & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days prior to start (7-year county, nationwide criminal, SSN trace, sex offender, SAM, OIG)
  • Drug screen within 30 days prior to start (excluding marijuana/THC)
  • Verification of education and employment required
  • Two professional references required: one charge nurse or higher, one supervisor reference within the last year
  • Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Submission packet including cover page, resume, skills checklist, driver’s license, and license/certification verification required

Skills & Competency Testing

  • Unit-specific exams (EKG, Telemetry) within one year prior to start
  • Skills checklist and competency exams specific to scope of practice within one year prior to start
  • Core competencies including HIPAA, Patient Bill of Rights, Safety Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire Safety, Infection Control, Elder Abuse and Neglect, Age Specific Care, Cultural Diversity, Advance Directives (annual update required)

Additional Notes

  • Assignment confirmation form must be uploaded within 24 hours of offer acceptance
  • Candidates must follow facility-specific onboarding and compliance instructions

This position is ideal for experienced Step Down nurses with required certifications and immunizations, ready for a 12-week travel assignment in Kentucky.
